Poisson Consulting Ltd. is a Canadian data analytics company that specializes in computational biology, population ecology and the interpretation of statistical models for management.


Since 2007, its scientists have been contracted by governmental, Indigenous, industrial and conservation-based clients in North America and Europe to design data collection programs, manage databases, perform statistical analyses, develop software, and provide independent scientific review and advice.


Poisson Consulting's core research team consists of Joe Thorley, Robyn Irvine, Seb Dalgarno and Evan Amies-Galonski.


Among them Poisson Consulting's scientists have published over 25 peer-reviewed articles in journals such as River Research and Applications, Canadian Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences, Fisheries Management and Ecology, Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution and Bioinformatics.

What's in a name?

The company name reflects its origins in fish population ecology as well as Canada's Anglo-French heritage: Poisson is both the French word for fish and the name of a statistical distribution of fundamental importance in population ecology.
